Wolves have endured a difficult start to the Premier League season under Vitor Pereira

Wolves were beaten 3-2 at home by Burnley on Sunday afternoon in their latest Premier League outing. Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi got their goals against the Clarets. The visitors struck late in the game at Molineux through Lyle Foster to steal all three points.

Vitor Pereira’s side are in the drop zone along with Nottingham Forest and West Ham and are in a battle for survival. They are yet to win in the league so far this season. Next up is a clash against Chelsea in the next round of the Carabao Cup.

Wolves goalkeeper Josa Sa became embroiled in a heated discussion with supporters after their defeat to Burnley. The stopper was on the bench against the Clarets behind Sam Johnstone. He hasn’t been able to nail down the number one spot
Sa, 32, has been filmed in a noisy confrontation with fans outside the stadium, as per @Stokeyy62 on X. The video lasts for three minutes. He is heard beckoning supporters to plead his case on the club’s ongoing struggle this season, repeatedly asking them to “Come here”. He is also heard to be saying: “When I go home, I don’t speak to my wife because we lose, because I am sad.”

The Portugal international, who has three caps to his name, joined Wolves back in 2021. He has since made 150 appearances in all competitions, 30 of which came last term. However, he is playing second fiddle behind Johnstone at this moment in time.

Sa is under contract until June 2027 meaning he still has a couple of years left to run down on his deal still. Prior to his move to England, he caught the eye between the sticks at Olympiacos in Greece. He has also had spells in the past with the likes of Maritimo and FC Porto in his native country.

Wolves have been a mess over recent times and could do without players getting involved in arguments with their fan-base. Sa is a passionate character though and the fact he stood up for himself shows he strongly cares about the situation. Pressure is starting to grow on Pereira and the heat will continue to intensify the longer their winless streak goes on.

The Midlands sold key players like Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri this past summer to Manchester United and Manchester City. They weren’t able to replace them adequately though and have struggled to get going. Despite being able to keep hold of key attacker Strand Larsen, they haven’t been able to find their feet at all and are at serious risk of dropping down into the Championship if they can’t turn their fortunes around quick.

Following their cup tie against Chelsea, Wolves head down to London this weekend to play Fulham at Craven Cottage. Their upcoming opponents are sat in 17th position and are too close to the bottom three for comfort. Marco Silva’s side will want to see an upturn in form soon or they themselves could get dragged into a bit of trouble over the coming weeks and months.
