What Wolves fans could be heard chanting about Vitor Pereira after Chelsea’s second goal

It didn’t take long for Wolves to provoke a reaction from the Molineux faithful during their Carabao Cup tie with Chelsea.

This was always going to be a tough fixture for a Wolves team struggling for form. Vitor Pereira’s XI to face Chelsea looked set to at least frustrate Enzo Maresca’s side with six defenders included.

But it would take five minutes for the clean sheet to disappear, when a stray pass from Tolu Arokodare fell to Andrey Santos. Insult would be added to injury at the quarter-hour mark when Tyrique George tapped in a second.

After that, the mood at Molineux dropped to the floor, and chants from the South Bank let Pereira and Wolves know exactly what the fans were thinking.

Pereira’s popularity at Wolves was at an all-time low before a ball was kicked, but the instant capitulation of his side was the last straw for many in the crowd.

Feeling as though the game was a foregone conclusion by the 20-minute mark, fans in the South Bank made a prediction about the fallout.

Wolves fans came into this tie with hope, maybe not of a win, but of a performance from their team that they could be proud of. The first 20 minutes certainly did not provide that.

And when Estevao grabbed a third before the break, it sent a message that this would not be another two-goal comeback like we saw at the weekend.

Vitor Pereira’s starting XI is in, as Wolves look to pull off a shock win against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

Just three days on from that dismal defeat against Burnley in the Premier League, Wolves have themselves an opportunity to build some confidence.

Chelsea are in town tonight at Molineux, and Wolves are looking to make it a hat-trick of wins in the competition.

Wanderers beat West Ham United and Everton to reach this point, and Chelsea will be the Old Gold’s toughest challenge yet.

But Enzo Maresca’s admission that he will rotate against Wolves will encourage Vitor Pereira, who is in desperate need of a win to relieve some of the pressure on him.

The Wolves hierarchy is sticking by Pereira for now, but defeat tonight, and/or against Fulham at the weekend, and it could be curtains for the Portuguese.

And in the last moments, Wolves have released Pereira’s starting XI to face Chelsea.

Joao Gomes returns to the starting XI, and could possibly be joined by one of those defensive players in the engine room. Fer Lopez also gets a rare start.

Hwang Hee-chan and Tolu Arokodare also get the nod in attack.

One thing that will please many fans is the fact that Mateus Mane is on the bench for Wolves, as is Tawanda Chirewa.

Fans had speculated Mane would be in the squad after he didn’t play for the Wolves U21s yesterday.
