Kieran Tierney has revealed the classy text that Kasper Schmeichel sent Celtic’s Scotland representatives, following Scotland’s 4-2 win over Denmark on Tuesday night.

Tierney scored what would be the all-important winner, booking his nation’s spot in next summer’s World Cup, which is due to take place in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

However, in doing so, he condemned his Celtic teammate’s country to a play-off spot, with Brian Riemer’s side dropping five points in their final two games.

Despite this, Tierney detailed the classy gesture that Schmeichel sent to both himself and Anthony Ralston following the game. “No, he’s back tomorrow,” he said when asked if he had bumped into the keeper on his first day back in training. [Sky Sports]

“He actually sent me a lovely text after the game. Within an hour or so, he texted me and Ralston, so it just shows you the professional that he is as well. I said it after the game as well. Somebody’s got to lose, and in the last few years or however many years, it’s usually been Scotland in a game like that.

So for us to have the fortune on our side and the moments on our side that night, it was really special, but obviously, it’s a shame for Kasper and his team as well.”

On using next summer as a motivation, Tierney continued, “We’ve got plenty of big games and a cup final coming up. But of course, it’s a massive thing that people will be looking for at the end of the season.

“But before then, there’s another camp in March, and even before that, there’s probably 30 games before March.

“So, there’s a lot to focus on in the now before thinking too far ahead.”
