Skov Olsen move hailed

Rangers head coach Danny Rohl believes winger Andreas Skov Olsen could be a “great” signing if the Ibrox club can help him rediscover his Club Brugge form.

Skov Olsen signed for German side Wolfsburg for a fee in the region of £12 million from the Belgian outfit a year ago following three successful campaign in Bruges. He netted 35 goals in 90 appearances and became a regular Danish internationalist but has struggled to replicate that form in the Bundesliga.

Rangers have brokered a loan deal until the end of the season for Skov Olsen with an option to buy and Rohl, speaking ahead of tonight’s Scottish Cup tie with Annan Athletic, revealed that his arrival is close. He would become the Ibrox side’s third signing after bringing in left-back Tuur Rommens and midfielder Tochi Chukwuani.

Skov Olsen’s signature would be a coup for Rangers given the 26-year-old’s pedigree and the different dimension he would give the team’s attack as they bid to overhaul leaders Hearts at the top of the Premiership.

“I’m not a good poker player,” said Rohl. “Now we are in the process, it looks very positive but as long as it’s not confirmed and everything is through, then I cannot tell you too much. I was asking for a left foot on the right side. I think this is also in part, because we have a lot of right foots, it gives us a different profile as well. He (Skov Olsen) had a lot of goals at Club Brugge and now it’s about us. If he comes, if we bring him back to his best performance, then of course he could be a great loan signing.”

Out-of-favour midfielder Lyall Cameron has been linked with a loan move to Aberdeen for the rest of the season.

Cameron, 23, joined Rangers last summer from Dundee but has struggled to feature under current Rangers head coach Danny Rohl. It is understood that he would be allowed to pursue first-team football elsewhere.

Speaking on Thursday, Dons caretaker boss Peter Leven said: “Yes, Lutz (Pfannenstiel, sporting director) and the recruitment team are working on that. They’re busy on that side of it and they’re just keeping me updated.

“We’re trying to get maybe one or two in for the weekend, potentially. There’ll be some going out, and there are ones that we’re trying to bring in as well.”

Roos joins Killie

Kilmarnock have signed former Aberdeen goalkeeper Kelle Roos on loan for the rest of the season. The 33-year-old joins Neil McCann’s squad from Notts County and the deal spells the end of Celtic keeper Tobi Oluwayemi’s emergency loan.

Oluwayemi arrived at Killie after Max Stryjek was diagnosed with a heart problem that required surgery. Stryjek is back in light training.

When asked earlier in the day about the prospect of making signings, McCann said: “I hope so. As I said, there was absolutely no guarantees from the board that I would be able to do that. They gave me assurances that they would try to get some help to the dressing room because I think the group that I’ve got in there could be doing with a wee bit of help in certain areas.

“But as I said before, if I didn’t get anybody it’s up to me to try and improve us in all aspects of our game. But I would like to think that we might get one or two over the line. I want players to come in here who are really hungry. I’m trying to make signings into this group to come in and actually show, whether it be loans or permanents, that they can make an impact to the team.”

Hearts business ramps up

Hearts have agreed a pre-contract to sign St Johnstone winger Josh McPake in the summer. The 24-year-old has scored 15 goals for the William Hill Championship leaders this term and will move to Tynecastle when his current deal at McDiarmid Park expires.

“We can confirm that Josh McPake has signed a pre-contract with Heart of Midlothian,” read a statement from St Johnstone. “Josh will remain with us at McDiarmid Park until the end of the season.”

McPake, who joined Saints from Stirling Albion the summer of 2024, will sign a three-year contract with the Jambos. He is the second player to agree to join the Edinburgh club in the summer after they secured a deal earlier this week for Uganda forward Rogers Mato.

Hearts are working on a deal to bring Mato to Tynecastle before the current transfer window closes. The had a bid of £300,000 rejected earlier in the months but are now in fresh talks with his current club FK Vardar in a bid to secure him now.

Kartum leaves Tynecastle

Hearts playmaker Sander Kartum has joined A-League side Wellington Phoenix for the rest of the season.

The New Zealand-based outfit announced on Thursday evening that Kartum, 30, has joined them and will go straight into manager Giancarlo Italiano’s squad.

When I heard that Sander was available I was quite excited about potentially bringing him in,” Italiano said. “I reached out to a couple of people I know in Scotland to get a character reference and they were really positive, so I started pursuing it and seeing if it could happen.

“I’m really happy that the club have allowed me to find the resources to bring Sander in and make it happen so quickly. He’s an out and out 10 and a really skilful link player that can dribble and score. Sander’s also very hard working and can cover the ground quite well. He bolsters the squad, gives us some depth and make us a little bit different.”

Robertson opens up on future

Scotland captain Andy Robertson remains in talks with Liverpool over a new contract and insisted a change in his role this season has not diminished his desire to play.

Robertson, who is in the final months of his contract, has found his starting spot taken by £40million summer signing Milos Kerkez. However, the 31-year-old has still made 20 appearances this season and will continue discussions with the club and his family about where his future lies.
