Sunderland transfer news latest as triple exits loom and Tammy Abraham situation evolves – round-up

As the transfer window moves into its defining stretch, a number of Sunderland-centred developments are beginning to crystallise, set against a wider backdrop of accelerating activity across the Premier League and the European market. Negotiations are intensifying, medicals are being scheduled, and several clubs are now pushing deals toward the finish line as time starts to run out.

On Wearside, attention has turned to both potential exits and unresolved squad gaps. Sunderland are currently engaged in discussions with Millwall regarding a possible loan move for first-choice goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. However, any agreement remains conditional, with the Black Cats unwilling to greenlight Patterson’s departure until a suitable replacement has been identified and secured. Earlier efforts to resolve the situation saw Sunderland explore a move for Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Jonas Omlin, but that deal collapsed earlier in the window, leaving the club still exposed in a key position.

In midfield, Dan Neil appears to be nearing the end of his Sunderland chapter. Speculation around Tammy Abraham has also continued to hover in the background, though the picture has shifted in recent days. While Sunderland have previously been loosely linked with the striker, clarity has emerged elsewhere. Turkish side Besiktas have confirmed that Abraham’s loan spell from Roma has now been converted into a permanent transfer. That development could open the door for a future Premier League return, with Aston Villa understood to be monitoring the situation closely should an opportunity arise.

Away from the Stadium of Light, Millwall’s transfer business is gathering momentum. In addition to their interest in Patterson, the Lions are close to wrapping up the signing of experienced midfielder Barry Bannan. The former Sheffield Wednesday captain has travelled to London to complete the final stages of the move, with paperwork and formalities now being finalised.
