One more new signing expected at Ibrox with two possible exits
Rangers have been active in the January window with three new signings already made and head coach Danny Rohl is hopeful of at least one further addition on transfer deadline day.
Denmark winger Andreas Skov Olsen has arrived on a loan deal from Wolfsburg that includes an option to buy while a combined £7million was spent recruiting Danish midfielder Tochi Chukwuani from Sturm Graz and Belgian left-back Tuur Rommens from Westerlo
There have been outgoings from Ibrox too with Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis joining Aberdeen and Kilmarnock respectively on loan until the end of the season and Kieron Dowell sealing a permanent move to Hull City for an undisclosed fee.
Further exits are expected on deadline day with out-of-favour defender Clinton Nsiala set to sign for Westerlo in a loan deal that will include a purchase option. Brazilian striker Danilo, who has not started a match since December 11, could also leave but a loan move to NEC Nijmegen would appear dependant on Rangers signing a striker before the window shuts.
Rohl wants a new number nine to provide further competition for Yousseff Chermiti and Bojan Miovski, who have managed only seven Premiership goals between them so far this season.
A verbal agreement has been reached for Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi to move to Ibrox – but not until the summer. The 22-year-old is keen to move to Scotland but his club, who play in the German third tier, are not prepared to let him depart before the end of the season with a delayed arrival expected.
The solution for Rangers for the here and now could rest with Southampton forward Cameron Archer. The Ibrox club have an agreement in place to sign the 24-year-old on loan providing Saints are able find a replacement for Adam Armstrong, who is set to sign for Wolverhampton Wanderers on deadline day. Should the domino effect fall into place before the 11pm deadline, Archer will likely be the fourth and final Rangers recruit of the January window, although rest assured the club will be scouring the market for any late deals, with a creative attacking midfielder high on the wishlist of many supporters.
If not, then Rangers could be forced into a desperate scramble for the striker Rohl wants before the window shuts,. Their title bid could depend on it, although the German head coach indicated he would be content with his squad if nothing develops.
“First, we will see what happens tomorrow,” Rohl said after the goalless draw with Hibs at Easter Road on Sunday. “If something happens, I’m happy. If not, I carry on with my group. They have done a good job so far; this is our job to do.”
