Frustrated Adam Idah Sparks Celtic Exit Talk Despite Scoring Equaliser in Old Firm Draw

Celtic striker Adam Idah has ignited serious speculation about his future after delivering a frank and frustrated post-match interview despite rescuing a point for his side with a crucial equaliser in Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Rangers at Celtic Park.

The Irish international, on loan from Norwich City, found the net in the 57th minute, cancelling out Rangers’ first-half opener and breathing life into a Celtic side that had looked second best for much of the early proceedings. Idah’s goal a powerful, composed finish from close range was one of the few bright spots in a cagey Old Firm derby that lacked fluency but not intensity.

Yet despite his individual heroics, Idah was visibly discontent both on and off the pitch. After the match, the 24-year-old cut a frustrated figure and delivered a post-match interview that has sparked fears he may not be at the club beyond this season.

“I’m proud to have scored that’s what I’m here to do,” Idah said bluntly. “But one goal doesn’t mean everything is okay. It’s tough when it feels like the team isn’t pushing in the right direction. I’ve loved my time here, but I need to think about what’s best for my future.”

While not an explicit declaration of intent to leave, Idah’s remarks have been widely interpreted as a warning shot to the Celtic hierarchy. With his loan set to expire at the end of the season, and no permanent deal yet negotiated with Norwich, the striker’s future is now uncertain and fans fear that Celtic could lose one of their most consistent performers of the second half of the season.

Supporters took to social media immediately after the match to express concern and frustration not at Idah, but at what many see as the club’s failure to build around him and implement a coherent attacking plan.

“He’s saving us in big games and still has to run the channels by himself,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter). “If he leaves, it’s on Rodgers and the board.”

Idah’s frustration reportedly goes beyond Sunday’s result. Sources close to the squad say the striker has grown increasingly dissatisfied with Brendan Rodgers’ tactical approach, particularly the lack of attacking support and direction. Despite leading the line with aggression and purpose, Idah has often been left isolated, forced to drop deep and create chances himself a role that has taken a toll physically and mentally.

The 1-1 draw against Rangers highlighted those issues. Even after scoring early in the second half, Idah received little service as Celtic struggled to build sustained pressure in the final third. The lack of urgency and cohesion in such a crucial match was not lost on the forward  or the fans.

To make matters worse, there has been no formal approach from Celtic to secure Idah’s permanent transfer from Norwich. With interest building from English Championship and lower-tier Premier League clubs, the lack of action could prove costly for the Glasgow side.

Rodgers, under mounting pressure following weeks of tension within the dressing room including recent clashes involving Daizen Maeda  now faces another test of his leadership. Reassuring Idah and showing him a clear path forward will be essential in keeping him at the club.
