FA CUP: MAN CITY CAPTAIN JOHN STONES’ POST-MATCH INTERVIEW DRAWS FA ATTENTION AFTER HE SLAMS TRIPPIER ACTION FOLLOWING 3–1 DEFEAT
Tension from a heated FA Cup clash between Manchester City and Newcastle United continued long after the final whistle, as comments made by City captain John Stones in his post-match interview reportedly attracted the attention of The Football Association.
Manchester City secured an impressive 3–1 victory at St James’ Park in the FA Cup tie, overturning an early Newcastle lead to advance in the competition. Goals from Sávio and a brace from Omar Marmoush sealed the win after Harvey Barnes had given Newcastle an early advantage.

“You win some games and you lose some games,” he added. “But at the end of the day we’re professionals. If we can battle for 90 minutes, we should still be able to show respect afterwards.”

Credit to the lads for showing intelligence and composure. What disappointed me most was their captain refusing a handshake that’s not leadership, that’s frustration.”
While Stones did not raise his voice or use offensive language, his criticism of Trippier’s behavior was clear, and the remarks quickly spread across social media and sports platforms.
Some fans supported Stones’ stance, arguing that sportsmanship is an important part of football culture. Others, however, felt the Manchester City captain should have handled the situation privately rather than addressing it publicly.
