“Jordan Pickford Asked If He’d Ever Wear Sunderland Colours Again  His Answer Has Fans Talking Everywhere”

England and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has sent Sunderland supporters into a frenzy after giving a heartfelt and surprisingly open response when asked whether he could ever return to the club where his professional journey began.

Pickford, who came through the academy at Sunderland A.F.C. before rising to become England’s No.1, addressed the emotional topic during an exclusive interview this week. The question of a potential return to the Stadium of Light has followed him for years, especially as Sunderland continue their push to re-establish themselves among English football’s elite.

And when the topic was finally put to him directly, Pickford didn’t dismiss the idea.

“I’ve always said Sunderland is my club,” Pickford admitted during the interview. “It’s where I grew up, where my family is, and where I learned the game. Football is unpredictable, so you never say never about what might happen in the future.”

The Everton goalkeeper, who currently plays for Everton F.C. and has been a key figure for England national football team in recent international tournaments, went on to explain that his focus right now remains firmly on his current club and continuing to perform at the highest level.

“At this stage of my career, my focus is on Everton and doing the best I can for them,” Pickford continued. “But Sunderland will always have a special place in my heart. If the timing was ever right one day, who knows? Football has a funny way of bringing things full circle.”

Those words particularly the phrase “never say never” were enough to ignite huge debate among Sunderland fans online.

Pickford made his senior breakthrough at Sunderland before leaving for Everton in 2017 in a deal that reportedly made him one of the most expensive British goalkeepers at the time. Since then, he has gone on to establish himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent goalkeepers while also becoming a key figure for England in major tournaments.

Yet despite his rise to global recognition, the connection between Pickford and Sunderland supporters has never truly faded.

As soon as the interview circulated online, fans flooded social media with reactions, with many stunned by how open he was about the possibility.

“Did Pickford really just say ‘never say never’ about coming back? I’m not going to lie… that gave me chills.”

@BlackCatsTillIDie posted: “If that day ever happens the Stadium of Light will absolutely explode. Imagine Pickford back in Sunderland colours again.”

@RokerRoar, reacted with disbelief: “I didn’t expect him to leave the door open like that. Fair play to him for being honest.”

Some supporters even began dreaming about what such a return could mean for the club’s future.

@SAFCRebuild wrote: “Pickford returning one day would be the ultimate full-circle moment for Sunderland. Academy lad comes home after conquering the Premier League.”

@NorthEastPulse joked: “I’m not getting carried away… but I’ve already imagined the announcement video.”

Of course, not all fans believe the move could realistically happen anytime soon. Pickford remains firmly established as Everton’s first-choice goalkeeper and continues to play at the very highest level of English football.

Still, many supporters appreciated the respect he showed toward Sunderland.

@StadiumOfLightVoice commented: “At least he hasn’t forgotten where he came from. Some players move on and never look back Pickford clearly still cares about Sunderland.”

Pickford has never hidden his affection for the club. Born in Washington, Tyne and Wear, he grew up supporting Sunderland and joined the club’s academy as a youngster before progressing through the ranks.

Although he spent several seasons out on loan early in his career, his performances eventually earned him a first-team place and national attention before his move to Everton.

Since then, his reputation has grown significantly. He has represented England in multiple major tournaments and played a vital role in their deep runs on the international stage.

Despite that success, Sunderland fans continue to view him as one of their own.

For now, any return remains purely hypothetical. But Pickford’s comments have ensured that the conversation won’t disappear anytime soon.

His verdict was simple but powerful: he isn’t planning a return right now  yet he hasn’t ruled it out either.

And in football, sometimes that’s enough to keep supporters dreaming.

@WearsideDreamer summed it up online:“Most players would shut the question down immediately. The fact Pickford didn’t? That’s why Sunderland fans are talking about this everywhere.”
