Celtic Urged to Go Global as Club Eyes Next Generation of Talent
Celtic have been challenged to think bigger not just on the pitch, but on a global scale.
Despite dominating the domestic scene with 13 Premiership titles in the last 14 years, calls are growing for the Glasgow giants to expand their football empire by building a multi-club network across the globe , a model already embraced by elite sides like Manchester City and Chelsea.
Former Aberdeen, Everton, and Aston Villa executive Keith Wyness, now a respected football consultant, believes it’s time for Celtic to use their financial edge to grow beyond Scottish borders. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness emphasized the importance of creating a system that helps develop young talent worldwide a pipeline that could help sustain the club’s success for years to come.
“I’ve urged Celtic for a long time to invest in a global network not just throw money at transfers, but create a system that uncovers young gems every year,” Wyness said. “They have the resources. The foundation is solid. Now’s the time to build on it.”
The call comes just days after Football Insider revealed that Celtic earned over £43 million from their 2023-24 campaign, thanks to another league title and their European exploits. But while Brendan Rodgers’ men added another league trophy to the cabinet, they were denied a domestic treble after a penalty shootout loss to Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup final.
Wyness expects the club to continue tapping into overseas markets this summer, sticking with their well-established scouting approach one that has proven successful in the past. He believes Celtic’s ability to identify and develop young, high-potential players remains a key strength.
“They need more firepower up front, sure but more importantly, they’ve got to keep betting on youth and potential,” he added. “That’s what brings long-term value. It’s a formula that works scout smart, develop, and sell for profit.”
Meanwhile, Celtic are reportedly reluctant to part ways with winger Nicolas Kühn, who has attracted interest from RB Leipzig and Newcastle United. Despite his importance to Rodgers’ setup, former Manchester United scout Mick Brown claims the club may be forced to reconsider if bids north of £20 million arrive.
As the summer window opens, one thing is clear: Celtic’s dominance in Scotland is no longer enough. The pressure is on to take their ambitions global and build a future that’s as profitable as it is powerful.
