TRUCK DRIVER CHALLENGES POLICE REPORT ON DIOGO JOTA CAR CRASH AS SECOND WITNESS COMES FORWARD

Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has found himself at the center of an unexpected legal and media storm following a recent car crash that took place just outside Merseyside. The incident, which occurred last week, has taken a controversial turn as a truck driver who captured the event on his dashcam is now publicly disputing the official police report. The situation has intensified further after a second witness has come forward with information that may contradict the authorities’ findings.
The Incident
The crash occurred on Monday morning July 21st as Jota was reportedly traveling from Liverpool’s training ground to his residence in Cheshire. According to Merseyside Police’s initial report, Jota’s vehicle, a black Range Rover, was said to have lost control while merging lanes near the M62 junction, colliding with a small delivery van. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported, and both parties were treated on site for minor bruises and shock.
At the time, police labeled the event a minor traffic incident and concluded that wet road conditions and driver error were the primary causes of the crash. Jota was not detained or cited for any offense. However, that narrative is now under scrutiny.
Truck Driver Speaks Out
A truck driver who was traveling behind the crash scene released dashcam footage to the public via social media on Thursday. Identified only as “Martin” for privacy reasons, the driver claimed he witnessed the entire incident and described the police report as incomplete and inaccurate.
“What I saw didn’t match what the report said. It wasn’t just wet roads. There was another factor, and I believe Diogo Jota may not have been at fault,” Martin stated in a now viral video posted to his TikTok and Instagram accounts.
According to Martin, a third vehicle described as a gray hatchback allegedly swerved abruptly in front of Jota’s SUV, forcing him to take evasive action that resulted in the collision with the van. Martin claims the hatchback never stopped and left the scene moments after the crash, an allegation that would significantly alter the legal implications of the case.
The dashcam footage he released has since been shared widely, amassing over 1.3 million views in less than 24 hours. It appears to show a sudden lane change by another car moments before Jota’s vehicle veers sharply to the left. However, the grainy quality and partial obstruction by the truck’s windshield wipers have left room for interpretation.

Second Witness Comes Forward
The controversy deepened when a second witness, a female commuter named Emily Lawson, reached out to the media after seeing the footage online. Lawson claimed she was driving two lanes over when the incident occurred and also recalled seeing the same gray hatchback driving erratically just before the crash.
“It all happened fast, but I remember thinking that car was weaving in and out like it was in a rush. I thought someone would end up in an accident and minutes later, I saw the crash in my mirror,” she told The Guardian.
Lawson has since given a statement to police and is reportedly cooperating fully with investigators. Her description of the third car aligns closely with Martin’s account, raising questions about whether the authorities prematurely closed the case.
⚖️ Liverpool FC Responds
Liverpool Football Club issued a brief statement on Friday morning in support of their player
“We are aware of the ongoing investigation surrounding Diogo Jota’s recent traffic incident. The club is providing full support to Diogo and is in communication with local authorities. No further comments will be made at this time.”
Sources close to Jota say the 28-year-old Portuguese international is shaken but fine and is currently focusing on pre-season training under manager Arne Slot. It’s understood that his legal team is monitoring developments closely but has not yet issued an official comment.
Police Under Pressure
Merseyside Police have confirmed they are reviewing the newly submitted dashcam footage and additional witness statements. A spokesperson said
“We are committed to establishing the full facts of this incident and welcome any material or witness testimony that may assist the investigation.”
Calls for greater transparency in how traffic accidents involving high-profile figures are handled have grown louder in the wake of this case. Critics argue that early conclusions can sometimes be influenced by a desire to minimize media attention or controversy.
What Happens Next
Legal experts believe that if the involvement of a third vehicle is confirmed, the case may be reopened and further investigation could lead to either citations or the pursuit of the fleeing driver.
As for Diogo Jota, the incident is unlikely to affect his upcoming season unless legal proceedings escalate. However, it has certainly placed unwanted attention on the player just weeks before the Premier League’s new campaign kicks off.
With pressure mounting and more eyes turning to the case each day, all parties now await the next move, whether from law enforcement, legal teams or yet another witness ready to speak up.
