Leeds United round-up: Farke addresses goalkeeper situation as familiar face linked with return

The end of the January transfer window is mere hours away, but there’s still time for Leeds United to conclude some business.

Leeds have been reserved this winter so far, with the capture of Facundo Buonanotte and the departure of Jack Harrison – both on loan – their only business so far. But sitting just six points above the relegation zone with 14 games to go, many would feel the Whites need to bring a couple more faces through the door to give them the quality needed to survive.

With that in mind, here are some of the latest rumours swirling around Elland Road.

Daniel Farke addresses goalkeeper situation

Leeds’ 4-0 defeat at home to Arsenal was something of a disaster, with two set-piece goals conceded in the first half, including a Karl Darlow own goal after a mix-up at the near post with Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Noni Madueke’s corner.

It was the latest in a host of disappointing performances between the sticks for Leeds this season, with Darlow and Lucas Perri trading the No.1 jersey throughout the campaign due to form and fitness.

With that in mind, it’s unsurprising to hear whispers of Leeds targeting a new goalkeeper over the next couple of days. Daniel Farke was asked directly about the club’s plans in this position at the end of the window, and while he was noncommittal, he didn’t rule a move out.

Our board knows exactly my feelings, but I’ve said several times that I wouldn’t speak too much publicly about my opinions, because it makes the market more difficult,” Farke responded when asked about potentially signing a goalkeeper.

Sadly I can’t answer that question honestly so of course we’re always looking to improve the squad and bring quality players in, especially in positions we are a bit weaker, that’s for sure.

“I concentrate on the players that I have available and try to be there with my best possible decisions.”

Leeds ‘still in’ for Strand Larsen after apparent Wolves goodbye

Despite rejuvenated form from Dominic Calvert-Lewin in recent months, striker remains a position of interest for Leeds at the end of the winter market.

As is the case with many clubs, the Whites have been heavily linked with Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen. Crystal Palace appear to be the favourites to sign the Norway international, but Sky Sports journalist William Bitibiri stated on Saturday that Leeds are ‘still in’, while suggesting Strand Larsen said his goodbyes to the Wolves supporters after their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday.

“Jorgen Strand Larsen could be seen applauding the Wolves fans after the full-time whistle on what could be his final appearance at Molineux,” wrote Bitibiri. “The striker came on in the 70th minute of a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth, replacing Hwang Hee Chan as Wolves chased the game.

“Sky Sports News understands Crystal Palace still want to sign Strand Larsen from Wolves after a fee of £45m plus £5m was more or less verbally agreed by all parties.

“However, there are still some adjustments to the deal that are yet to be agreed upon but the clubs are working on it. Leeds are still in for the striker too.”

Strand Larsen scored 14 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, but has only netted once in 21 outings this campaign, alongside a further five goals in four combined FA Cup and EFL Cup matches.

Jaidon Anthony sounded out for shock Leeds return

Jaidon Anthony was only a bit-part player during his loan at Leeds United back in the 2023/24 campaign, starting just two of his 31 Championship appearances and clocking up only 879 minutes across 38 matches in all competitions. However, the forward still managed two goals and two assists, while he’s gone on to enjoy far more success with Burnley, registering 14 goals and nine assists in 66 outings so far since the start of last season.

The winger started this season like a house on fire, hitting four goals and an assist in his first six Premier League appearances. He’s slowed up since then, but still has a team-high six goals to his name in all competitions, at a rate of 0.35 goals per 90 minutes.
