Fans in the away end at Tannadice voiced their anger at full-time, with O’Neill’s men delivering a dismal performance in a 2-0 loss to Jim Goodwin’s bottom-six side.
The Tangerines were largely untroubled throughout, as the Hoops struggled to impose themselves and ultimately slipped further behind in the title race, remaining third behind Hearts and the Ibrox club.
Discontent among the support has been building for much of the season, with tensions over issues such as recruitment strategy, communication and the ongoing dispute involving Green Brigade and fan media bans.
That frustration boiled over following the team’s eighth league defeat – their worst tally in a single campaign since 1999/2000.
A number of senior figures, including chief executive Michael Nicholson, CFO Chris McKay and interim chairman Brian Wilson, were the focus of supporters’ anger.
Speaking post-match, the Celtic boss did not shy away from addressing the situation, acknowledging the scenes while noting that the unrest has been simmering for some time rather than being solely triggered by today’s Margin for error now is virtually zero for Celtic. They must win every single one of their remaining seven games to if they want to stand any chance of retain the title. Celtic could win all seven games but still lose the title if Hearts lose to Celtic but win their remaining six matches.

Martin O’Neill was brutally honest after Celtic’s 2-0 loss to Dundee United, saying they “disappointed an awful lot of people here today”. He felt the team didn’t compete strongly enough, especially in the second half, where they conceded two goals and lost their way.
