Celtic Transfer Blow: Top Target Breaks Silence with Brutal Verdict on Move

A familiar name from Celtic’s previous transfer pursuits has once again resurfaced, reigniting speculation about a potential summer move to Parkhead. Michel-Ange Balikwisha, the dynamic winger from Belgian Pro League side Royal Antwerp, has drawn the attention of Celtic fans following a flurry of online activity that suggests he may still be open to a switch to Glasgow.

Balikwisha was strongly linked with Celtic during the summer transfer window in July 2024. Reports at the time indicated that the club had entered discussions with his representatives, with Brendan Rodgers believed to be an admirer of the Belgian attacker’s style and skill set. Despite the apparent interest, no deal materialised, and Balikwisha remained at Antwerp, focusing on his recovery from an injury that sidelined him during the early part of the season.

As the January transfer window approached, speculation about a move to Celtic resurfaced. However, Balikwisha again stayed put, determined to re-establish himself in Antwerp’s starting eleven and continue his development in familiar surroundings. That decision appears to have paid off, with the 22-year-old playing an important role in Antwerp’s recent performances.

Following Antwerp’s impressive 3-0 win over Gent, Balikwisha took to Instagram to share matchday images. While his post seemed innocent enough, it was the reaction from fans—and the player’s responses—that reignited the transfer conversation. One Celtic supporter commented using a four-leaf clover and eyes emoji, widely seen as a reference to the club. Interestingly, Balikwisha liked the comment, sending Celtic fans into a frenzy.

Adding further fuel to the fire, the same fan followed up with another message saying, “He liked it, Celtic,” accompanied by a ‘soon’ emoji. Again, Balikwisha responded with a like. While social media activity of this nature is far from confirmation of a potential transfer, in the world of modern football, such gestures rarely go unnoticed—especially by a fanbase as passionate and digitally active as Celtic’s.

The winger’s playing style makes him a natural fit for Rodgers’ system. Known for his pace, directness, and attacking flair, Balikwisha offers the kind of threat from wide areas that Celtic have historically valued. With the club expected to refresh its squad ahead of a demanding 2025/26 campaign—which includes European qualifiers and domestic title ambitions—a player of Balikwisha’s profile remains an appealing option.

Celtic’s ongoing search for wide attacking talent has also led them to other potential targets. Recent reports suggest that Blackburn Rovers’ Tyrhys Dolan is on the club’s radar. The 23-year-old English winger is nearing the end of his contract at Ewood Park and has attracted attention with his dribbling ability and versatility across the front line. Dolan, like Balikwisha, would bring energy and depth to Celtic’s attacking options.

As the summer transfer window draws closer, speculation around Balikwisha’s future is likely to intensify, especially if his subtle social media hints continue. While no formal approach has been confirmed, Celtic’s recruitment team appears to be actively monitoring both the Belgian star and other wingers, suggesting that significant moves could be on the horizon.
