Controversy Erupts: SPFL’s Harsh Ruling Sparks Outrage as Celtic Nears Title Glory”
Celtic won the league title for a 55th time after the Bhoys hammered Dundee United to win in stylish fashion.
There’s been plenty of reaction to the win, most notably Chris Sutton’s jibe at Kris Boyd after a Sky Sports compilation clip poked fun at Boyd once again.
This trophy win means Celtic are closing in on a European record, needing two more league titles to match Linfield’s record-breaking tally of 57.
Fans will wait until the final game of the season against St Mirren to watch the Hoops lift the title at Celtic Park.
Most of those involved in another successful 24/25 campaign will get a winners’ medal but sadly, for six first-team stars, they will not qualify.
Who are the six players that will miss out on a winners’ medal?
SPFL rules state that players who have featured in a minimum of 10 league games qualify for a medal.
Rule C39 states: “The Company shall present to the Champion Club of the League 25 League Championship Medals for Players, other staff and Officials.
Additional League Championship Medals may be purchased from the Company with the prior consent of the Board.
“Only those Players who participated in 25 per cent or more of the League Matches for the Champion Club in the relevant Season will be eligible to receive such medals.”
This means that the likes of Viljami Sinisalo will miss out on a medal as he will only play a maximum of eight league games – despite deputising for Kasper Schmeichel.
Luis Palma will get one in Greece, but not with his parent club, after only playing eight league games.
Meanwhile, January departures Kyogo Furuhashi and Alex Valle will both get medals after playing in enough games.
The players who won’t get medals are: Viljami Sinisalo, Maik Nawrocki, Johnny Kenny, Luis Palma, Odin Thiago Holm, and Stephen Welsh
Which Celtic players will get a winners’ medal?
Whilst six players will unfortunately miss out, there will still be a grand total of 21 who will definitely be awarded a medal.
Mainstays in the team like Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda will be awarded one.
Even January signing Jeffrey Schlupp will be awarded a medal after meeting the threshold.
