Wrexham join race to sign teenage goal machine, he’s already been on trial at Celtic twice

Wrexham have been linked with a whole host of experienced heads in the early days of this summer transfer window, but youngsters are wanted too.

Wrexham are looking for new signings and many targets share one thing in common – they are over 30.

Aaron Cresswell, Craig Dawson, Ben Davies, Tom Cairney, Danny Ings… the list of experienced players being linked with Wrexham just goes on.

The perception of Wrexham only signing ageing players isn’t quite right, and younger talents have been linked this summer.

Brentford’s Myles Peart-Harris is on Wrexham’s radar and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Tommy Doyle is a £3million target for Phil Parkinson.

Wrexham could look even younger, though, with one teenage prospect now being touted as a potential target.

Wrexham linked with Cliftonville’s Shay Reid

News Letter in Northern Ireland report that Wrexham are interested in signing Cliftonville striker Shay Reid.

Reid is only 16, so he would certainly be viewed as one for the future at the STōK Cae Ras.

It’s stated that Reid was the top scorer in the Under-20 Premiership Development League in Northern Ireland this past season, scoring 23 times in 32 games.

Reid also scored 21 goals in 25 Under-18 games, racking up goals at every level so far in his young career.

Wrexham are now interested, but face competition from Championship rivals Preston North End.

Aberdeen fancy taking Reid to Scotland, with the race for the teenager’s signature already starting ahead of his 17th birthday in July.

Wrexham snapped up Yassine Toure this past season and may look to bring in more youngsters for the future.

Teenage prospects may be more willing to join the Wrexham project with Premier League football now just one promotion away.

Reid could be one such signing, but the biggest competition Wrexham face may come from Scottish giants Celtic.

Reid has been on trial with Celtic not once, but twice having attracted attention in Northern Ireland.

Belfast Live reported in February that Reid went on trial with Celtic last summer, and they brought him back to Glasgow earlier this year.

Celtic certainly appear to be very interested in Reid, and those trial spells may give the Bhoys an early advantage over Wrexham in the race for his signature.
