Glasner to face two-year ban from FA after his comments about TOTTENHAM and FA – it’s terrifying -he shouldn’t have said that

Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner is at the center of a major controversy following his explosive post-match comments after his side’s 2-0 away win over Tottenham Hotspur on May 11. Despite celebrating an impressive victory at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Austrian manager’s remarks about both the opposition and the Football Association (FA) have sparked outrage and could now lead to a two-year touchline ban.

“It’s Terrifying”  Glasner’s Words Stir Controversy

Speaking to reporters after the match, Glasner praised his team’s performance but quickly shifted focus to broader concerns he says are “not being talked about enough” in English football. When asked about the result and his view on Tottenham, Glasner responded:

It’s a great win, and I’m proud of the boys, but I have to be honest  it’s terrifying. The way certain things are handled, both by some clubs and even the FA, makes it difficult to compete fairly. You see the pressure, the politics  it’s terrifying.”

The remark, particularly his choice of the word “terrifying”, immediately raised eyebrows in the press room and quickly made headlines across football media. Critics argue the comments suggested institutional bias or misconduct, an implication the FA reportedly took very seriously.

FA Launches Formal Investigation

Within hours of the post-match interview going viral, the Football Association confirmed it had launched a formal investigation into Glasner’s comments, citing potential breaches of FA Rule E3, which prohibits statements that bring the game into disrepute or question the integrity of officiating bodies.

An FA spokesperson issued a short statement Sunday morning:

We are aware of the comments made by Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner following the match against Tottenham Hotspur. These remarks are currently under review, and appropriate disciplinary proceedings may follow.”

According to multiple sources, the FA is considering a suspension of up to two years an unprecedented punishment if imposed due to what they see as a direct attack on the governing body’s integrity.

Mixed Reaction from the Football World

Football pundits, fans, and former players have had mixed reactions to Glasner’s comments. Some believe he was speaking out against long-standing issues in English football, while others have criticized his tone and timing.

Former England defender Jamie Carragher commented on Sky Sports:

Managers are under pressure, yes, but you can’t just go around saying things that imply corruption or bias. ‘Terrifying’ is a strong word, and the FA has to protect its image.”

On social media, some fans defended Glasner for having the courage to speak up, with one Palace supporter posting: “He just said what many managers are thinking but too scared to admit.”

Others, however, felt the coach crossed a line. “You won 2-0, and you’re still complaining? That’s not professionalism, that’s paranoia,” a Spurs fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Crystal Palace Yet to Respond

As of Monday morning, Crystal Palace has not released an official statement regarding the potential ban or Glasner’s remarks. Club sources suggest Glasner will be supported internally, but officials are “disappointed” by the fallout and are in dialogue with the FA.

What’s Next?

Glasner is expected to be contacted by the FA this week for an official explanation. Depending on his response and the FA’s ruling, the Palace boss could face anything from a warning or fine to a multi-year ban from all FA-affiliated competitions.

The potential suspension would be a significant blow for Crystal Palace, who have seen improved form under Glasner since his appointment earlier this year. His no-nonsense approach and tactical discipline have revitalized the squad, and fans fear losing that momentum if he is sidelined.

For now, Glasner remains in charge, but the storm following his “terrifying” comment has cast a shadow over what should have been a night of celebration for Crystal Palace.
