Boss Nuno Espirito Santo has provided his West Ham team news for Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Leeds United at the London Stadium and a Crysencio Summerville update.
West Ham’s ex-Whites star Summerville has not featured since suffering a calf injury in last month’s fifth round clash against Brentford, the winger missing his side’s last two games.
The ex-Leeds man’s injury led to him missing March’s internationals with the Netherlands but there were reports that the 24-year-old could return after the international break.
Speaking at Friday’s pre-match press conference, Espirito Santo said simply that Summerville was being assessed.
Asked how the squad was looking, the Irons boss said: “Assessing, assessing players. International break – positive that many of players achieved big things, some of them not so happy, some of them return with issues. assessing.”
“We are not at that point yet”
Asked in particular about Summerville, he said: “Trying, all of us trying to get him as soon as possible, assessing day by day, see how he improves.”
Pressed on whether it would be too much of a risk to play him on Sunday, Espirito Santo reasoned: “First we have to assess, if it’s good, if he feels good, we are not in that point yet so still one day to go and then we take decisions.”
Even with Summerville out injured, the Hammers had ten players on international duty including impressive Greek defender Konstantinos Mavropanos who suffered a head injury in last Friday’s 1-0 defeat against Paraguay in which he was then taken off with seven minutes left.
Mavropanos was the missing for Tuesday’s game against Hungary in Budapest.
Doubts also surround the availability of Hammers centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo who suffered a calf injury in the warm up ahead of the clash at Aston Villa before the international break. The 26-year-old played no part against Villa.
Experienced Hammers keeper Lukasz Fabianski, meanwhile, has not featured since his run-out for the club’s under-21s in September due to a back injury.
