Daniel Farke Tells leeds united Player to Find a New Club or he Won’t Play a Single match next Season. Some fans are happy Others are not.

ELLAND ROAD, LEEDS Daniel Farke has only been preparing for his fourth season at Leeds United. But he is already making it clear: he is in charge, and he will not compromise.

 

The German boss, who led Leeds to Premier League safety with three games to spare last season, has delivered a brutal ultimatum to one of his first-team players: leave the club this summer, or spend the entire season on the bench.

 

Farke made the revelation during a press conference on Tuesday. He did not name the player directly, but club sources have since confirmed the individual’s identity.

What Farke Said

In his latest show of authority, Farke did not hold back.

“I have been transparent with the player, with his agent, and with the board. He is not part of my plans. If he stays, he will not play  not one minute. Not in the Premier League, not in the cups, not anywhere. It is his choice: find a new club before the window closes, or prepare to sit in the stands for the entire season.”

He continued

“I was not brought here to keep things as they were. I was brought here to change things. I will not carry players who do not fit what we are building.”

A large section of the Leeds fanbase has applauded Farke’s uncompromising approach.

For these supporters, Farke is exactly what the club needed after years of instability. He has already delivered promotion and kept the club in the Premier League. Now they trust him to clear out the deadwood.

But not everyone is convinced. A significant number of Leeds fans have voiced concerns.

 

· “This is how you lose a dressing room before the season even starts. Handle it privately.”

· “Now every club knows we want to sell. We’ve lost all our bargaining power.”

 

There are also worries about the wider impact on squad morale. If Farke is willing to publicly exile one player so early into pre-season, other squad members may start to feel uneasy about their own positions.

While Farke refused to name names, sources have confirmed the player is Joel Piroe.

The Dutch striker joined Leeds from Swansea in the summer of 2023 for up to £16 million. He arrived with a big reputation after scoring 46 goals in 98 appearances for Swansea, but his time at Elland Road has been a major disappointment.

 

Piroe made 21 appearances last season but failed to score in 16 Premier League games, managing just 246 minutes of top-flight action. He is currently behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Lukas Nmecha, and Noah Okafor in the pecking order.

 

The 26-year-old, who has 12 months remaining on his contract (with an option to extend), earns around £40,000-£45,000 per week.

 

The situation is complicated by Piroe’s stance. He has publicly stated he wants to stay and fight for his place, telling Flashscore: “I just want to prove myself with Leeds in the Premier League.” This creates a direct conflict with Farke’s ultimatum.

The Commercial Risk

By openly admitting Piroe is surplus to requirements, Leeds have signalled to every other club that they are desperate to sell potentially driving down his transfer value.

Leeds are keen to shift his wages and bring in a new striker, but Piroe appears determined to stay. If he chooses to see out his contract, Leeds could be left paying high wages for a player who contributes nothing.

Farke appears unconcerned:

“I am a coach, not an accountant. My job is to win matches. If he stays, he costs money and adds nothing. That is worse than selling for less than we want.”

The transfer window closes on August 31, leaving just over five weeks for Piroe to find a new club.

Pre-season continues with the Dutch striker now training separately from the main group a clear sign that Farke’s threat is not an empty one.

 

The Leeds board, led by chief executive Robbie Evans, sporting director Adam Underwood, and global sports director Jürgen Klopp, is fully behind their manager.

 

The club has already been active this summer. Tarik Muharemovic arrived for £34.1 million from Sassuolo, and Harry Wilson joined on a free transfer from Fulham. The club is also in advanced talks to sign Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford in a deal that could smash their transfer record.

 

Interest in Piroe is believed to have come from clubs in the Netherlands and Germany, though no formal bid has yet been tabled.

For Farke, this is about more than just one player. It is about establishing his authority: no one is bigger than the team.

As he said earlier: “I know what is possible here at Leeds United and how much I believe in this club.” But he also warned: “Just to survive for one more year makes no sense.”

Leeds kick off their Premier League campaign on August 14. The final verdict on Farke’s ruthless approach will only come when the season starts. And if results do not  follow, the fans who cheered his boldness today may be the same ones calling for his head tomorrow.
