Brendan Rodgers has left an ‘unhappy dressing room’ for the new Celtic manager

Wilfried Nancy’s man management skills will immediately be tested if he becomes the next Celtic boss.

That is according to ex-Aberdeen and Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who says Brendan Rodgers is leaving an “unhappy” squad for the next manager.

Rodgers resigned as Celtic manager in October, with owner Dermot Desmond releasing a statement criticising the former Liverpool boss.

Tensions have been high at Celtic this season, with fans protesting against the board, but interim manager Martin O’Neill has led the team to five wins in their last six games.

Wilfried Nancy’s ‘got to get some stability’ at Celtic

Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – thinks Nancy may have to adapt his playing style when he comes to terms with Scottish football.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness doesn’t see an easy game for the incoming manager.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, he’s got to get some stability, certainly in terms of, I think he’s going to be looking at the goals. I think he’s going to be looking at the forwar

“All I’ve read about him is he wants to play a certain attacking style of football, which is all very good until you arrive in Glasgow. As Mike Tyson says, everybody’s got a game plan until you get punched in the face.

“I think Wilfried Nancy, he’s got to understand he’s going to get punched in the face metaphorically when he comes to Glasgow and sees the pressure he’s going to be under at Celtic Park. So I think he’s going to have to adapt to Scottish football pretty quickly.

“Now we’ve seen Hearts, although they had the upset at Aberdeen at the weekend, still playing very good football. Hibs are playing good football. Motherwell, St Mirren, Aberdeen, some of these clubs are starting to get some form. And so it isn’t quite as easy for Celtic as it used to be.

“So those games at weekends are going to be important tests for Nancy coming in. He’s got to get the squad united. I mean, Brendan has left a pretty unhappy squad as well so Nancy’s got to do his man management skills and try and get them united together.”

Nancy’s home advantage to start life at Celtic

Nancy is already targeting players from Columbus Crew to bring to Celtic, as an important transfer window nears for the club.

O’Neill is still expected to take charge of Celtic’s trip to Hibs, so the Frenchman could start his tenure at home to Dundee.
