A former Hibs player has revealed the story behind a famous snap upon his exit from Easter Road.
It’s Falkirk on the road for David Gray’s side this weekend in the Premiership, a key game that can solidify their place in the league’s top five. Between the sticks for Falkirk will be Scott Bain, who has worked his way back into Scotland contention this season, after ending his time as a back-up at Celtic to become the Bairns’ number one.
Bain’s latest meeting with Hibs comes eight years after he joined the club on loan from Dundee but it was ripped up on deadline day. Craig Gordon’s injury at Celtic had the Hoops calling for the goalkeeper’s services but he was snapped arriving in Glasgow still kitted in his Hibs tracksuit, and has opened up on what truly happened that night.
Scott Bain on time at Hibs
He’s quoted in the Scottish Sun: “I always get asked why I had a Hibs tracksuit on. When I signed for Falkirk last summer I was actually going to wear a Celtic tracksuit just to keep it going! Hibs had a home game against Motherwell on January 31, which was a Wednesday night, and I had to leave straight from there to get to Celtic Park.
“The deal was quite a complicated one and it got done at 11.45pm, right before the cut-off time. I’m glad I never went home and got changed before I got the deal over the line. I might not have made it otherwise. It was a big moment for me signing for Celtic, so I’m glad we can have a laugh about showing up in the Hibs tracksuit now.
“I had 30 days at Hibs before I left. Football is about luck sometimes. You have to grasp the opportunity when you get it.”
Scott Bain on signing new Falkirk deal
Such has Bain’s success been at Falkirk, he’s already signed a new deal until 2028. He said earlier this month: “I am delighted to sign this extension at the club. It was a no brainer for me and my family, I’m really enjoying life here, and I love working with everyone at the club, the players, and the manager.
“The way I see the game and the way I enjoy playing the game is the same as how the manager wants to play so I love the way we are on the park. I’m just taking it step-by-step, the same way we do on the pitch, and hopefully we can continue to have success both individually and as a team.”
Boss John McGlynn said: “First and foremost, he’s a top goalkeeper, and he’s helped our defence immensely. He’s brought a real calmness to the back line and to the team as a whole, and he’s also an excellent character off the pitch. He’s been very good in the dressing room, bringing a lot of knowledge from his time at Celtic, where he worked at a high level for a number of years. He’s learned a great deal, and our players are already benefiting from that, and will continue to do so going forward.
