Bellamy went further, explaining why Ampadu was never taken off during the match despite changes being made elsewhere.
“I didn’t see any reason to take him off. He was doing his job, he was steady, he was calm under pressure, and honestly, he was one of the few players giving us control when we needed it,” he said.
The Wales manager also suggested that Ampadu’s performance stood out in an otherwise underwhelming team display.
“Too many players were below the level tonight, simple as that. But Ethan showed responsibility. He kept fighting, kept organising things, and that’s what you want in difficult moments,” Bellamy added.
The defeat has raised questions about Wales’ consistency, but Bellamy insisted that rebuilding discipline and focus will be his priority moving forward.
“We will improve. But we need players who take responsibility. Tonight, Ethan did that. Others didn’t, and that has to change,” he said firmly.
