Wolves boss receives hefty fine but avoids touchline ban

Wolves boss Vitor Pereira has received a hefty fine for his red card against Brighton but has escaped a touchline ban.

The head coach kicked a spare ball away in frustration in the first half at Molineux and was given his marching orders, as Wolves picked up a point against the Seagulls.

There was concern over him receiving a touchline ban, ahead of a huge clash against Burnley this weekend, but he has escaped that punishment and instead been hit with a £15,000 fine.

A statement from the FA read: “An independent Regulatory Commission has fined Wolverhampton Wanderers FC’s Vitor Pereira £15,000 for misconduct during their Premier League fixture on Sunday 5 October against Brighton & Hove Albion FC.

“It was alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner around the 19th minute, which led to his dismissal, and he subsequently admitted the charge. The Regulatory Commission imposed his sanction following a hearing.”

The ball that Pereira kicked hit the Sky Sports floor manager but the head coach was extremely apologetic at the time and following the incident, which is understood to have aided his case to not have a touchline ban.

When asked about the decision, Pereira said: “For me it was a bad experience, I punished myself a lot.

“I spent two days without talking as I felt it was not good behaviour and I need to control my emotions. It was a moment of frustration.

“I will be on the bench (against Burnley) and it’s important because in the Brighton game we were not ready to communicate and the communication between me and my assistant was a disaster.

“It’s important to see the manager on the bench. Of course I trust 100 per cent in my assistants, but it’s different.

“It was a situation that I cannot repeat. I must promise myself I cannot repeat it and control myself.”

Pereira subsequently apologized for his behavior, stating, “I know football is emotional, and I’m an emotional guy. But my behavior was not proper. I kicked a ball and it cannot happen again. I apologize.” His assistant manager, Luis Miguel, also apologized on his behalf, explaining that Pereira’s actions were a moment of frustration ¹.

This fine is a significant setback for Pereira, who has been working hard to turn Wolves’ fortunes around since taking over as manager in mid-December. The team was 19th in the table and five points from safety when he joined but has since secured Premier League survival under his leadership
