Celtic supporters have been left divided after Cameron Carter-Vickers series of striking comments during a live interview with Celtic TV, discussing the club’s summer transfer plans, Martin O’Neill’s leadership and the possibility of former Celtic star returning to Parkhead.
The defender’s remarks have quickly generated debate among supporters, with particular attention focused on his alleged concerns over Celtic’s attacking options and his comments about Kyogo.
Speaking during the live Celtic TV interview, Carter-Vickers made it clear that he believes Celtic still need to strengthen their forward line.
“I think everyone can see that we still need to strengthen in certain areas. We have targets and players we want to bring in, but sometimes it feels like things are taking too long. As players, you want the strongest possible squad around you because the season is long and there are a lot of competitions to play.”
The Celtic defender stressed that additional attacking quality would be important if the club is serious about competing across multiple competitions.
“For me, it is important that we bring in quality in the forward positions. We have good players already, but if you want to compete at the highest level, you need depth. You need players who can come into the team and make a difference. Hopefully, we can get some of those deals done.”
Carter-Vickers also used the opportunity to praise Martin O’Neill, describing the manager as an important influence within the Celtic dressing room.
“Martin has been excellent. His experience speaks for itself, but it is not just about what he has achieved in the past. You see the way he works with the players every day. He demands a lot from us, but he also gives us confidence. His leadership has been really important for the team.”
The defender went on to explain the impact O’Neill has had since taking charge.
“He has brought a lot of belief. He understands what this club means, he understands the pressure and he understands what the supporters expect. That is something you notice immediately. He wants us to be aggressive, to play with confidence and to compete for everything.”
But it was the discussion surrounding Kyogo Furuhashi that have since caused the biggest reaction among Celtic supporters.
Kyogo remains a hugely popular figure among the Celtic support following his successful spell at the club. His goals and performances made him one of the most recognisable players of his generation at Parkhead, and many supporters have continued to dream of seeing him return.
During the live interview, Carter-Vickers revealed that he had recently been in contact with the Japanese forward.
“I have spoken with Kyogo recently. We still have a good relationship and we keep in touch. From my conversations with him, I know how much Celtic means to him. I think if the opportunity was there, he would certainly listen.”
That claim has intensified speculation.
Carter-Vickers expressed his own desire to see Kyogo return to Celtic.
“I would love to see Kyogo back. I think a lot of the players would. The supporters would obviously love it as well. He knows the club, he knows the environment and he knows what it means to play for Celtic.”
The most controversial part of the interview came when Carter-Vickers questioned why Celtic had not made a stronger attempt to bring the striker back.
“That is the part that is difficult for me to understand. If a player like Kyogo is potentially available and he is open to coming back, then obviously you would want the club to look at the possibility. It is not my decision, but as a teammate and as someone who knows him, I would love to see it happen.”
Those comments have divided Celtic supporters.
Some believe the club should immediately investigate the possibility of bringing Kyogo back, particularly if the striker is genuinely interested.
Others argue that Celtic must avoid making emotional decisions and instead focus on whether a potential transfer makes sense financially and tactically.

“We cannot control what happens in the transfer market. Our job is to prepare and play football. But everyone wants the squad to be as strong as possible. We want to win trophies, we want to compete in Europe and we want to give the supporters something to be proud of.”
He concluded by emphasising the expectations of the Celtic support.
“The supporters deserve the best. They come every week, they travel everywhere and they expect us to give everything. So when you have the opportunity to strengthen the team and bring in quality players, you want that to happen.”
The interview has now added another layer to Celtic’s summer transfer debate.
Whether the club will pursue another forward remains to be seen, while the possibility of a Kyogo return is likely to remain a major talking point among supporters.
