DEREK MCINNES STUNS FANS WITH BRUTAL POST MATCH COMMENTS AS HE SLAMS DANNY ROHL’S ACTIONS AFTER THE FINAL WHISTLE – IT’S HEARTBREAKING

After Hearts’ 2–1 win over Rangers FC, Hearts manager Derek McInnes launched a fierce post-match attack on Rangers in a heated and emotional interview that has since sparked widespread reaction across football fans and pundits.

McInnes, visibly upset after the final whistle, did not hide his frustration with aspects of the opposition’s conduct during and after the match.

While celebrating his team’s hard-fought victory, he also used the post-match media duties to strongly criticise Rangers, suggesting that parts of their approach during the game created unnecessary tension.

Speaking shortly after the final whistle, McInnes first praised his own players for their discipline, commitment, and resilience in a high-pressure environment at the stadium. He also made a point of acknowledging the match officials, commending them for staying composed in what he described as a difficult and emotionally charged encounter.

McInnes; “my player were brilliant in terms of their focus and mentality. They didn’t get dragged into anything, they stayed strong, and they showed real character from start to finish.”

He also added praise for the officials, stating that they handled the intensity of the match professionally.

“And I’ve got to mention the officials as well,” he continued. “Because that was not an easy game to manage. There was a lot of pressure, a lot of emotion, but they stood firm and did their job properly. That deserves credit.”

However, McInnes’ tone quickly shifted when discussing Rangers, as he expressed clear dissatisfaction with what he felt was a lack of respect and unnecessary aggression at stages of the match.

“Let’s be honest, there were moments in that game where things went too far,” he said. “We expected a tough match, but there’s a difference between being competitive and crossing the line.”

 “I don’t usually speak about Rangers, but tonight I will. My job is to stand up for this club. What I saw wasn’t acceptable. We showed more discipline, more respect, and more desire. We focused on football, and that’s why we won. I’ll leave it at that,” McInnes said.

The Hearts manager suggested that certain behaviours from the Rangers side added fuel to an already intense fixture, making it more difficult to control emotionally on both sides.

“We didn’t react to it,” McInnes added. “That’s the important thing. My players stayed disciplined and focused on football, not the noise around them.”

McInnes, however, made it clear in his interview that he felt the moment reflected a lack of respect.

“I went over to shake his hand because that’s what you do in football,” he said. “But in that moment, I didn’t feel it was really there. Maybe he was frustrated, maybe he was still in the game, but respect has to come first.”

The post-match drama continued after a brief but now widely circulated video clip showed McInnes and Rangers manager Danny Rohl in a tense moment during the customary handshake.

McInnes appeared to approach Rohl, but the Rangers boss, still visibly frustrated after the defeat, did not fully engage in the exchange, instead appearing distracted as he walked away.

That moment has since become a major talking point online, with fans divided over whether it was intentional disrespect or simply frustration from a disappointing result.

Despite the controversy, McInnes remained proud of his team’s performance, insisting that Hearts earned their victory through discipline and determination against a strong Rangers side.

“We beat a very good team today,” he said. “There’s no doubt about that. Rangers are a strong side, but my players stood up to it and showed what they’re capable of.”

He also used the opportunity to reinforce Hearts’ ambitions for the season, making it clear that he believes his team can continue to challenge at the top end of the table.

“This is just one result, but it shows what we can do,” McInnes stated. “We have belief in this group. If we stay focused and keep this mentality, we can achieve something special this season.”
