KRIS BOYD’S SEVEN-WORD COMMENT SPARKS FURY AMONG CELTIC FANS AFTER THE DESMOND BANNER PROTEST EVEN AFTER THEIR 2–0 WIN AT FIR PARK!

Kris Boyd has done it again. The former Rangers striker and Sky Sports pundit has never been one to shy away from winding up Celtic supporters, but his latest comment has taken things to a whole new level of fury.

The Banner That Shook Fir Park

Celtic may have walked away from Fir Park with a comfortable 2–0 victory, but the talking point wasn’t the goals, the performance, or even the three points. It was the banner.

During the match, a section of the Celtic support unveiled a protest banner referencing “Desmond”  a clear dig at the club’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond. The banner was an escalation of growing fan unrest over the club’s direction, transfer policy, and boardroom decisions.

The Green Brigade and other ultras groups have been increasingly vocal in their frustration, and this latest display made it clear that the discontent is not going away even when the team is winning on the pitch.

Boyd’s Seven Words

Never one to miss an opportunity, Kris Boyd took to the airwaves after the match and delivered a seven-word comment that has Celtic fans absolutely seething:

“Maybe Desmond should leave and let you rot.”

That’s it. Seven words. But the implication was enough to send social media into meltdown.

Boyd’s suggestion was clear: Celtic fans protesting against the board and Desmond are ungrateful, and if Desmond walked away, the club would collapse. It was a comment that reeked of arrogance and contempt for a support that has legitimate concerns about their club’s ambition and direction.

Celtic Fans React

The reaction was immediate and ferocious.

“Kris Boyd telling Celtic fans that Desmond should leave and let us rot? This from a man whose club literally died and had to start again in the bottom tier. This from a man who celebrated like he’d won the Champions League when Rangers went into liquidation. Now he’s telling us we’d be nothing without Desmond? I’ve never heard anything so delusional in my entire life. The man is an embarrassment to football punditry,” one fan posted on X.

Another wrote: “Let us rot? We’ve won treble after treble while his club was climbing back from the bottom tier. We’ve dominated Scottish football for over a decade while they were getting beaten by teams from the third division. Boyd should be thanking us for keeping Scottish football relevant while his club was a laughing stock. The sheer arrogance of this man is staggering. He’s not a pundit, he’s a troll with a microphone.”

A third fumed: “Kris Boyd has just told the entire Celtic support that Desmond should leave and let us rot. This from a man whose club literally ceased to exist. This from a man who now sits on Sky Sports pretending to be an authority on Scottish football. It’s beyond parody. It’s beyond embarrassing. It’s just sad.”

A fourth raged: “This is the same Kris Boyd who has spent his entire punditry career taking cheap shots at Celtic. Now he’s telling us we’d be nothing without Desmond? Absolutely delusional. The man is a walking embarrassment. Sky Sports should be ashamed of themselves for giving him a platform.”

The sentiment was clear: Celtic fans are tired of being lectured by a pundit who has made a career out of antagonising them and this comment crossed a line.

The Bigger Picture

Boyd’s comment may have been designed to provoke, but it also highlighted a growing disconnect between the Celtic support and the club’s hierarchy. The Desmond banner was not an isolated incident  it was the culmination of months of frustration over transfer inactivity, perceived lack of ambition in Europe, and a feeling that the board is resting on its laurels while others close the gap.

Even a 2–0 win at Fir Park couldn’t paper over those cracks. And Boyd’s dismissive, provocative remark only poured fuel on the fire.

What Happens Next?

Celtic fans are unlikely to let this go. The banner protest was a statement, and Boyd’s response has only strengthened their resolve. Whether the board takes notice remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the Celtic support will not be silenced not by Kris Boyd, and not by anyone else.

As for Boyd? He’ll be back on Sky Sports next week, ready to ruffle more feathers. It’s what he does. But Celtic fans will remember those seven words for a long time and they won’t forgive them anytime soon.
