Unai Emery was left facing one of the most uncomfortable questions of Aston Villa’s season after a devastating 4–0 defeat to Brighton exposed problems the Spanish boss will be desperate to eliminate immediately.
The scoreline was brutal. The performance was even more alarming.
Villa were overwhelmed by Brighton’s intensity, struggled to cope with the pressure and eventually found themselves completely out of the contest. The red card shown to João Gomes made an already difficult situation considerably worse, but in Post match interview, Emery make it clear that he was furious that his team allowed the dismissal to completely change their mentality.
Speaking to journalists after the final whistle, Emery refuse to hide his frustration.
“I am extremely disappointed,” Emery said in the dramatized interview, “The result is unacceptable. Four goals conceded is not something we can simply move past. “Some of the decisions we made today were simply not good enough,” he would say. “We gave Brighton opportunities that a team at this level will always take. We cannot continue giving away goals like this.”

When asked whether he would consider changing personnel after the humiliating defeat, Emery would issue a blunt warning.
“I HAVE SEEN ENOUGH. THIS CANNOT CONTINUE.”
“I am not going to accept the same mistakes again and again,” Emery continue. “The season is still fresh, and that is exactly why we have to act now. We are not going to start this season by accepting performances like this.”
